Making a summer Strawberry Margarita

So lately I have been curious about all sort of new recipes and something really easy that I have started to do is making my own fruit syrups at home. These are things you can make for your coffee brews, cocktails, and even just to use with your breakfast items or to create your own fruit teas.

Well I recently showed on Youtube I showed how to make a Strawberry Margarita with the traditional lime. I made my own fruit syrup and showed my weird technique for my own version of this classic cocktail. Below is the recipe. And you can also check out my video to see how I did it as well!

INGREDIENTS (without cocktail mixer):

2 ounces of Grand Marnier

1 1/2 ounces of Tequila

2 ounces of lime

2 1/2 ounces of Strawberry simple syrup (recipe below)

lime and fresh strawberries for garnish

salt/sugar for the rim

INGREDIENTS (with cocktail mixer):

4 ounces of mixer

1 1/2 ounces of Tequila

2 1/2 ounces strawberry simple syrup (recipe below)

lime and fresh strawberry for garnish

salt/sugar for the rim

Strawberry Syrup with Simple Syrup:

I cup of simple syrup

1 1/2 cups of strawberries

1/2 cup of white or brown sugar

1/2 cup of water.

I would begin by making your syrup because it’s going to take the longest to make. Now in my video I don’t use Simple Syrup, I tried to keep mine ironically more simple. In my video I just boil the water and the sugar and then mix in the strawberries until they are soft and the syrup thickens a little. This way also it’s less sugary. When you add the simple syrup there will be almost twice as much sugar but it’s going to give it the syrup consistency that most people look for.

You’ll combine equal parts sugar and water and bring it to a boil and let the sugar dissolve. Turn off the heat and let it cool. Combine 1 cup of simple syrup and the 1 1/2 cups of strawberries and blend until smooth. If you have a decent blender then you won’t need to worry about the seeds. Once you’ve combined and mixed the mixtures you’re ready to start on the Margarita.

If you use a cocktail mixer like I did in my video then your work is cut in half. The mixer has everything you need except the Tequila.

If you’re making it from scratch then you will start by rimming your glass with salt or sugar, or both if you’re feeling it. I used my syrup to line my rim but you can stick to traditional lime if you want. Fill the glass with ice. In a cocktail shaker (if you have one, I used a mason jar) combine tequila, grand marnier, simple syrup (the one you just made) and lime juice with ice. Shake for about twenty seconds and pour over the ice in your glass. Add lime and strawberries and you are all set for a great summer drink!!
